Expertise and skills: The Conservatoire Botanique National de Mascarin is an NGO in charge (by the French Ministry of the Environment) of inventorying the plant biodiversity, monitoring management and ex situ and in situ conservation plans for both species and their habitats and developing research programs dealing with the conservation sensu lato of the biodiversity of the French territories of the south west Indian Ocean region (Mayotte, Europa, Juan de Nova, Glorieuses, Tromelin and La Réunion). The scientific team includes 11 persons among which 3 are permanently based in Mayotte. The main missions on this territory include the set up of a referenced herbarium with the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (Paris), the exhaustive record of the flora (ATLAS mission), the exhaustive record of all the natural habitats and finally the set up of conservation plan of threatened and protected target species, among which that of Vanilla humblotii.
